Featured Student Spotlight

Meet Sawyer & Poppy!

Sawyer (12)

Instruments:  guitar (electric & acoustic), also trombone in MS band

Favorite bands:  Nirvana, Metallica — Sawyer likes pop & rap music as well, anything with good rhythm.

Current working on:  soloing, picking patterns

What Sawyer likes most about music lessons is being able to learn new songs and spend time with his music teacher.  When he is older, Sawyer wants to continue to play guitar and make music with his friends. When asked why music is important for the world, he believes that music “gives people something to do, brings a lot of people joy, and brings people together”.  When he is not making music, Sawyer is into mountain biking, trampoline, skiing, camping, rafting, and cliff jumping into water!

According to his instructor Andres, he thoroughly enjoys Sawyer's attitude every time he shows up for a lesson. Sawyer is always ready to go, wearing a smile, and never backs down from any challenge Andres throws at him.

Poppy (8)

Instruments:  ukulele, vocals, also dabbling in the keys and guitar

Favorite artist: (you guessed it) Taylor Swift. She also loves Meghan Trainor & Ava Max.

Favorite song: “Me Too” by Meghan Trainor (beautiful voice, great beat!)

Current working on:  new chords and strumming patterns with her songs, songwriting

What Poppy likes most about music lessons is that she gets to learn songs that she chooses with different instruments, and her instructor helps her write her own songs too.  When Poppy is grown up, she wants to also play the violin and pursue dancing.  When asked why music is important for the world, she believes that music simply makes a lot of people happy.  When she is not making music, Poppy enjoys rafting, playing with friends, and playing with her pet turtle and dog!

Poppy’s instructor Andres appreciates Poppy's creativity in every lesson, particularly when they are exploring topics with no clear right or wrong answer, such as what to write about. Andres says that Poppy is always brimming with endless incredible ideas and enthusiasm.
